We support political, social, legal, economic, and educational equality and access for all races, and pledge to dismantle systemic racism and racist violence that threaten the lives and opportunities of black and brown people, people of color, and religious minorities living in the U.S. today, with particular emphasis on those in the Florida Keys.

Current Issues of Focus

Voting Restoration Amendment (Florida)
"Say YES to 2nd Chances" is the campaign aimed at collecting the 700,000 signatures required for the Voting Restoration Amendment to appear on the 2018 ballot.

Currently, Florida is one of only three states with a lifetime ban on voting after a felony conviction and subsequent sentence served.

BALLOT SUMMARY:  This amendment restores the voting rights of Floridians with felony convictions after they complete all terms of their sentence including parole or probation.  The amendment would not apply to those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, who would continue to be permanently barred from voting unless the Governor and Cabinet vote to restore their voting rights on a case by case basis.

Ban The Box
This campaign calls for removing the question and check box, “Have you been convicted by a court?” from applications for employment, housing, public benefits, insurance, loans and other services.

We are currently educating ourselves on how this issue as it stands now affects our local communities and how "Banning the Box" here would help those who have paid their debt to society reestablish themselves in the community and move forward with more positive lives.
